IPL 2020: Mahela Jayawardene’s words helped me rectify and finish the game for MI vs KKR, says Quinton de Kock

Mumbai Indians opener Quinton de Kock, who was awarded the Man of the Match for his unbeaten 44-ball 78 against Kolkata Knight Riders, has shared what really was his driving force in finishing the game for his team. Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians crushed Eoin Morgan’s Kolkata Knight Riders as the former topped the table after a big win of 8 wickets (and 19 balls remaining) in Abu Dhabi.

De Kock opened up about his interaction with head coach Mahela Jayawardene post Mumbai’s match against Delhi Capitals, on October 11, and how that drove him to finish this game against Kolkata.

“Those shots [on the leg-side] are just one of the shots I have in my armoury. I don’t plan to do that, it is just natural. It is just about keeping my balance and playing them as I see them. Last game I was disappointed I didn’t finish the game. Mahela had a couple of words with us. So I had to rectify that. Mahela can come hard at you if you do something ordinary”, de Kock, the Man of the Match, said at the post-match presentation.

“To be honest, I have played this game enough to know you can’t do anything about it if you drop one. You have to carry on and do the best for your team. I am a better keeper than that. I’m working on some aspects of the keeping, but I think I can keep improving on that aspect of the game.”

Mumbai Indians have overhauled Shreyas Iyer’s Delhi Capitals to take the top position at the points table of IPL 2020.
