Thursday morning will be quiet and seasonable. Temperatures will hover in the mid and upper 20s with a wind around 5 mph and a mostly clear sky. Clouds will be in and out through the afternoon, particularly for our northern areas. Highs will climb into the low and mid 40s with a touch of a breeze out of the southwest. Overall a pretty pleasant day by December standards.Friday will be similar but expect more clouds. Also watch out for some lake effect snow showers for Northern New York and far northern Vermont coming off of Lake Ontario. Rain for the lower spots, snow for the higher spots, but none of it will be that heavy. Maybe a couple inches of accumulation for our highest terrain. Then, all eyes turn to the weekend for a possible storm. Low pressure is expected to develop to our south. There are multiple scenarios for how this could play out for area. First, if the low pressure center passes right over us we’ll get more rain mixing, especially over Vermont and our northwestern counties will get more snow. If the low stays closer to the Atlantic coast this will be a mainly snow event for most of us and we could be facing several inches of snow Saturday into Sunday. There’s also the possibility that the low stays further off the coast and we end up with very little snow and more rain.Regardless, expect showers to develop Saturday morning and become steadier as the day goes on, turning to snow at some point late in the day with showers lingering into Sunday. While it’s still 50/50 on whether this will be a big winter event for us, prepare for some plowable snow anyway. We will be watching and tweaking this forecast over the next several days so stay tuned!Next week is much cooler with highs in the 30s and a few chances for light snow showers.
