The coldest stretch of the season so far starts today. you’ll wake up to seasonable temperatures mainly in the upper 20s but the wind will already be gusting over 25 or 30 mph and it will make temperatures feel even worse. Wind is out of the northwest all day around 15 mph at least so expect temperatures to actually fall as the day goes on with temperatures only in the low and mid 20s by the afternoon. Add the wind and it will feel like the single digits all day. At least there will be some sunshine, but don’t let it fool you, it will still be plenty cold despite the bright day. From there it gets even colder! The Champlain Valley will easily dip into the single digits for Wednesday morning but our typically cooler places will be sub zero. Thankfully it won’t be as windy Wednesday but it’ll still be out of the north making it brisk with highs only in the teens. Plus clouds will fill out.A coastal system on Wednesday night and Thursday morning will skim us to the south. The bulk of which will miss us but it will bring a couple inches of snow to southern Vermont for the morning drive. Most of us will end up with less than an inch but as many as 4 inches for Bennington and Windham counties. That system will exit by Thursday afternoon and we’ll have a little sun on Friday with highs still about 10 degrees below average. We warm up over the weekend with highs back into the mid 30s. Dry Saturday and so far a chance for a few light snow showers or flurries but an otherwise relatively quiet weekend. Next week could bring another coastal storm to our region but we’re still too far out to have a strong handle on whether it will have a large impact on us or not.Follow the weather team on Facebook: Tom Messner | Caitlin Napoleoni | Tyler Jankoski | Ben Frechette
