Our messy storm is underway across the region: it has been switching between a mix and rain in the valleys, but heavy wet snow continues to fall in the mountains of southern Vermont. Over 13,000 customers are without power as of 9 AM Saturday morning.Expect several more hours of rain/snow, with the intensity of the precipitation winding down in the afternoon. Things will quiet down for some time Saturday evening. Once the center of the storm passes north on Sunday, winds will switch out of the west and fuel a sustained period of upslope snow. Several inches of fluffier snow are expected through Sunday evening! Minimal accumulations will be found in the Champlain Valley.Overall, expect a slushy inch or two in the valleys. Above 1,000 feet, most locations will see well over 6″ – Jay Peak and Stowe will likely wind up with more than a foot! A nice boost for ski country.Martin Luther King Day is quieter but colder, with highs in the 20s. Actually, most of next week is slightly cooler than normal.
