Warm weather cutting maple production short

some people might be enjoying this sudden change in temperature. However, it hasn’t been so good for maple syrup producers. NBC Fives Kristen Ray has more on how the season went from most Vermont sugar makers this time of year, these lines are usually flowing with a little more sap to make maple syrup. However, this season they are completely dry. We’ve had excellent seasons where we’ve had an abundance and we’ve had seasons where we’ve had shortages. This is on the shortage side, I would say. David Palmer runs his family sugar house in Shelburne. He’s happy they were able to gain access to another sugarbush so they could tap more trees. If not their production would have fallen short. It would not have been normal for us if we had not allocated another sugarbush available to get the most sap producers need warm days and freezing nights. Unfortunately there weren’t many of them this year, so generally across the board, it seems like a less than average year. In terms of the syrup production, Allison Hope of Vermont’s Maple sugar Association says most producers made only between 40 to 70% of their usual crop. The inconsistency and temperatures meant producers needed a lot more sap to boil. It takes more sap to make a gallon of maple syrup and the lower that sugar content goes, the more sad it takes. She says consumers shouldn’t worry about shortages and stores. However, it does mean that sometimes the price fluctuates based on supply and to my hands and she doesn’t think prices will go up too much unless similar problems continue in years to come. Alison Hope says producers understand that there are inconsistencies in the industry. Dave Palmer agrees, but you can’t you can’t put up mother nature and that’s the nature of this business of sugaring maple sugaring and everybody who’s involved and it understands that in the meantime hoping Palmer are hoping Mother Nature will be a little sweeter next year, Everybody that I have talked to and the association is certainly just rolling with it in a positive manner and getting ready for next year, reporting in Shelburne Kristen Ray, NBC five News. Mhm. Right.

Some folks might be enjoying the recent warm weather; however, it hasn’t been the best for maple production. Maple producer Dave Palmer of Palmer’s Sugarhouse in Shelburne says there’s been seasons where there’s an abundance of sap, and others, where there isn’t so much. This year, was on the shorter side. That’s why he’s happy they were able to gain access to an additional sugarbush this year. If not, production would have decreased due to the inconsistent weather patterns.
