Vaccine hunters in Vermont are cracking down on tactics to get folks registered for their COVID-19 vaccinations sooner. In Vermont, there’s multiple places to look when signing up for a COVID-19 vaccination. One vaccine hunter, Kevin Lumpkin saying, “It’s kind of a hustle that’s possible to do, but not everybody knows about it.” Who can get their vaccine first, and soonest, is a rush Vermonters have become familiar with. “I just found that I was finding out this information that would be helpful to other folks. So, I went to the only place I could think of which was Twitter, just so I could blast it out there.” While looking into signing up for his own shot, he came across vaccinespotter.org/vt A website that will tell someone what pharmacies in their state are offering vaccinations, around that same week. “It’s about 6:15 every morning that this scheduler opens back up. And I’d say every two or three days there are a bunch of new appointments that are worth at least checking out while you sip your morning coffee,” said Lumpkin. In his trials, Lumpkin found that registering through the state site will put some people scheduled out weeks, or months, away. He says CVS and Walgreens don’t tend to do that. “I had an experience where I saw CVS had dropped a bunch of appointments around Burlington, and they were for as soon as the next day. And one of the folks on Twitter saw that and replied to me.” One of many success stories behind why he does it all. It’s the extra work Kevin, and other twitter users are doing on their off-time, using the hashtag #ourshotvt that’s helping get more shots into people’s arms. “The intent is really to reach those folks. The more people who are getting those sooner available shots, the better the state does as a whole.” With Vermonters ages 16 and up eligible to register for their vaccinations Monday, Kumpkin anticipates sites to book up fast. He recommends people put in the extra work. A 20-minute search could get you your dose sooner.
