Water-front businesses are gearing up this Memorial Day weekend for what they’re expecting to be a very busy summer season. “We are glad to see that all of the restrictions have been lifted now mostly, and we are feeling like free people now,” said Ali Ijaz, visiting Vermont for the first time. Foot-traffic over the weekend could be a preview of what the city of Burlington could look like this summer. “Explore, just go everywhere, that’s what life is about., I want to explore everywhere that I haven’t been. And, covid was the only thing that pulled that back but thankfully everything is getting back to normal with vaccinations and what not so that’s something to look forward to,” said Salar Qureshi, visiting from Long Island. Salar and Ali say they’ve been waiting a long time to travel again. Vermont was one of the first stops on their list. “We’re on vacation to Vermont because it’s beautiful out. Yesterday we went hiking, beautiful mountains we gotta come back in the winter for skiing, we just like being outside its beautiful out here,” Qureshi said. The Ferry-Dock Marina is already fully booked. “There’s no question that the pandemic re-introduced boating to people that haven’t boated in a while or haven’t done it in a while folks that might have gone to summer camps, or gone away and gone traveling, and realizing that those resources didn’t exist for them,” said Kyle Bostwick of Ferry-Dock Marina. Kyle Bostwick says he anticipates a lot of people with this newfound love for boating will be requesting day-slips this summer if the warm weather patterns trend. “We’re full from a seasonal standpoint the interested has been phenomenal, and I envision, if the weather is great, we’re going to see an amazing summer this season,” he said. With lifted restrictions, and more people on the Marina, spot on the dock is expecting a busier summer than ever. The waterfront restaurant is now making expansions to their bar and expanding outdoor seating options, to accommodate. “It was a difficult year for everybody, so, for all of us to be down here again and offer a place where people can come and enjoy themselves safely together, its just a phenomenal place to be and I’m so happy to be a part of it,” said manager Sarah Cover.
