ATV operator dies in crash with pickup truck

TOWN OF BROWVILLE, New York (WWNY) – A 42 year old town of Pamelia man was killed Friday afternoon in a crash between an ATV and a pickup truck.

It happened shortly after 3 p.m. on Route 12E in the town of Brownville.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Phillip LaValley was operating an unregistered 4-wheeler, and entered the roadway from a stopped position.

Officials said he drove into the path of an oncoming entered the roadway from a stopped position into the path of an oncoming pickup truck driven by 62 year old Carl Militello of Whitesboro, New York.

Officials said an off-duty Border Patrol officer as well as an off duty-paramedic attempted to render aid to LaValley, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, LaValley was not wearing a helmet.

New York State Police, Town of Brownville Fire Department, Dexter Fire Department, Guilfoyle Ambulance Service, and the Sheriff’s Office Chaplain also responded to the scene.

No tickets were issued, and the investigation is continuing.
