Four ducklings were rescued and reunited with their mother after being found trapped under a drainage grate Tuesday morning.

Four ducklings were rescued and reunited with their mother after being found trapped under a drainage grate Tuesday morning.The duckling recovery occurred near the edge of Lake Pontchartrain off New Orleans, Louisiana. Flood Protection Authority East worker Michael Williams said a jogger alerted the levee board that she heard the ducklings chirping under the grate, so they were called in to remove it. Williams’ coworker, Henry Danz, used equipment to pry off the grate, which Williams said had been rusted shut. Williams then laid belly-down on the ground to pull the ducklings out, one by one. Williams said he believed the ducklings’ mother was across Lakeshore Drive, near the Mardi Gras fountain. With the help of a levee district police officer, they put the ducklings in a cardboard box for a trip across the street to reunite them with the mother duck.
