Elsa intensifies into first hurricane of 2021 Atlantic season
Frankly speaking, still in summer when storms travel this fast, it’s very difficult for these storms to intensify. And when you take a look at the hurricane centers, intermediate advisory moving off to the west northwest at 28 mph. They in fact make mention of that being a limiting factor. Now it will eventually slow down, but it may have some interaction with land. That’s gonna be the other potential limiting factor before. And if it even makes it to the state of florida, let’s show you the end of the cone note, which does have central and south florida in the cone. Again, the impact time would certainly be Tuesday, maybe even potentially on into Wednesday. Now there’s the center of circulation with Elsa as it is racing off towards the west northwest. Just a little bit stronger today, ones have gone up from 40 to 45 miles an hour. But as it’s quickly moving towards the west, we’ve got tropical storm warnings and watches up for the windward isles. I wanted to show you the latest computer models remember last night they were close to the southern tip of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. They’re in very good agreement and just a little bit more towards the south from late last night and a little bit more towards the west, potentially missing most of CUba until it either hit Havana or went into the straits there. But again, you look at all the models, Most of them are within the cone here from the hurricane center. So we’re gonna watch that and we’re also gonna be watching these highest peaks are close to 10,000 ft here over portions of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. That could have a significant impact on the intensity forecast down the road. The majority of the models have a very strong tropical storm, if not a hurricane. There’s one outlier, though, that is very close to a Category three. We’ll talk more about these and the scenarios of work ahead. When I see you coming up here in just a couple minutes, guys back to you, Tony. Thank you. LATEST. TONY? TONY: HISTORICALLY SPEAKING, WHEN STORMS TRAVELED IS FAST, IT IS DIFFICULT FOR THE STORMS TO INTENSIFY. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE HURRICANE CENTER’S ADVISORY MOVING TO THE NORTH-NORTHWEST, THEY MENTION THAT BEING A LIMITING FACTOR. IT WILL SLOW DOWN, BUT IT MAY HAVE INTERACTION WITH LAND. THAT WILL BE A FACTOR THAT MAKES IT TO THE STATE OF FLORIDA. THE END OF THE CONE HAS CENTRAL AND SOUTH FLORIDA. THE IMPACT TIME WOULD BE TUESDAY, MAYBE POTENTIALLY INTO WEDNESDAY. HERE IS THE CENTER OF CIRCULATION AS IT IS RACING TO THE WEST-NORTHWEST. STRONGER TODAY. WIND HAS GONE UP TO 45 MILES IN OUR. AS IT IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST, WE HAVE TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS AND WATCHES UP FOR THE WINDWARD ISLANDS. LAST NIGHT THEY WERE CLOSE TO THE SOUTHERN TIP OF HAITI. THEY ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT, AND MORE TOWARD THE SOUTH FROM LATE LAST NIGHT. ALSO MORE TOWARD THE WEST, POTENTIALLY MISSING MOST OF CUBA UNTIL IT EITHER HITS A VAN WENT INTO THE STRAIGHT’S. THE MODELS ARE WITHIN THE CONE IN THE CURRY CAME CENTER. WE WATCH THAT AND WILL ALSO WATCH THE HIGHEST CLOUDS OVER PORTIONS OF HAITI AND THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. THAT WILL HAVE AN IMPACT DOWN THE. — THE MAJORITY OF THE MODELS HAVE A TROPICAL STORM IF NOT A HURRICANE, AND THERE IS AN OUTLIER THAT IS CLOSE TO A CATEGORY 3.
