Robby Wildt, 40, is now behind bars after witnesses said they saw him take a 6-year-old girl and put her in his vehicle Friday night, according to arrest records.

A witness followed Wildt and was able to report his tag to police. The tip led officers to find the young girl in the front seat of Wildt’s car, the Louisville Metro Police Department said in an arrest citation.

Wildt admitted to police that “he saw the victim playing outside near the street, circled the block and then took her from the side of the road.”

After telling police he felt guilty for the kidnapping, he told police he began to drive back to the location he took the girl from. That’s where police officers made the arrest.

A spokesperson for the LMPD identified the officers as Sgt. Joe Keeling and Officer Jason Burba. Both appear in the videos released Wednesday by the department.

Keeling first located the vehicle and arrested Wildt. Burba is credited with finding and removing the 6-year-old girl from the car.

One of the videos shows Burba driving to the scene, walking up to the suspect’s red car and finding the girl in the front seat. He removes her from the vehicle, as she’s crying, and carries her back to his police cruiser.

The second video shows Keeling making his way to the scene, instructing Wildt to make his way out of the vehicle and walk back from it with his hands in the air. Keeling communicates to Wildt, who is then on his knees until another officer arrives to arrest him.

“Fortunately the entire incident only lasted about 30 minutes due to the quick actions of the community and LMPD,” officials said in a statement.

Officials stressed that while they don’t want to alarm the community, they said this is a good example for parents to remind their children about being aware of their surroundings and not trusting strangers.

“Stranger danger is real,” officials said.

They said this incident shows it’s always a good idea to talk to children about being cautious about any adult who tries to lure them to their vehicles or away from public view.
