This weekend, the NASCAR Cups Series returns to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Foxwoods Resort Casino 301.One of the most dramatic finishes in sports this season put driver Michael McDowell in the racing history books.“We all are really cherishing the moment, and have enjoyed it,” NASCAR driver Michael McDowell said. Forever a Daytona 500 Champion – however that was in the beginning of the season, there are still plenty of races left to drive. “I just stayed focused on you know the next week, performing, all the things studying doing all the things you have to do. You know you come in, you sign autographs, and then you get a reminder that oh yeah, that’s the Daytona 500 trophy, that’s the one you want to win,” McDowell said.McDowell is having the best season of his career – looking like a lock for the playoffs. Next up, is New Hampshire Motor Speedway.“New Hampshire is a tough little racetrack, it’s a flat race track, a mile long straightaways, hard breaking, pretty tight corners,” McDowell said. The atmosphere around the Magic Mile is also different.“It’s louder and it’s more intense. It’s not because of the volume of people. Like Talladega is louder because of the sheer volume. The actual fans are louder because the actual fans are louder and more excited that makes it fun when people are into it, it raises the energy level for sure,” McDowell said.High energy takes a special New England fuel, one that McDowell looks forward to specifically on race day in New Hampshire. “There is always a lobster fest happening in the infield. I don’t actually leave the track because that is where the food is,” McDowell said.Once again in front of a packed New Hampshire Motor Speedway, McDowell will be racing for a crustacean.
