The first day of school is approaching fast for the Chamberlin School in South Burlington. However, students’ first day will be delayed. The school is undergoing renovations to its heating and cooling system to allow students to stay cool, but also to help them concentrate better. The Chamberlin School is located less than a mile away from the Burlington International Airport. The $3 million upgrade will allow teachers to leave their windows shut on hot days, to not only make it more comfortable for students, but to help with noise mitigation from airplanes and jets passing over. “Having the windows closed in the winter time, it’s much less of a noise distraction than in the fall and the spring when we have had to have the windows open. We talk about something called the Chamberlin pause where whenever the airplanes go over or the jets go over there is a pause in instruction” said Principal Holly Rouelle. The first day of will be on Aug. 30 instead of Aug. 23. Rouelle says this should not impact the last day of school for students.
