Officers with the South Burlington Police Department say three juveniles are in custody following a lockdown at the city’s high school Thursday afternoon. Authorities said they were responding to a call about “potential weapons inside the school” building that prompted a lockdown at both schools on the campus. No one was injured and police at the scene have not confirmed if weapons were found. “The school was in lockdown, the school is now in a modified lock-in,” South Burlington Police Chief Shawn Burke wrote in a news release. “There is no threat to the public or school safety at this time.”In a later interview, Burke added that all three suspects knew one another and are speaking with police detectives. Students began leaving the campus at approximately 3 p.m., the school’s normal dismissal time, with all buses slated to run on schedule. This report will be updated.
