SUNY Plattsburgh police officer killed in motorcycle crash
A SUNY Plattsburgh police officer was killed Thursday afternoon during a motorcycle crash in Pennsylvania. Detectives with Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that 44-year-old Robert “Bob” Mesec, of Plattsburgh, died after his bike veered off a curve on Interstate 81 and struck a guardrail. The crash occurred at approximately 3:10 p.m. near the Swatara Township, according to police. Members of the Plattsburgh Police Union issued a statement via social media Friday, calling Mesec an “intelligent, witty, always-helpful and above all, compassionate” member of the police force. Mesec, who held the rank of lieutenant, had served the city in some capacity for nearly two decades. “Law enforcement as a whole has an immeasurable loss to face, but this pales in comparison to the loss that his family and friends now have to cope with,” the union wrote. “Lieutenant Mesec leaves behind a large family, to include his pride and joy, his daughter Nora.”Messages have been placed with University Police Plattsburgh offices but were not immediately returned.
