Detectives with state police on Monday released the name of a woman who drowned in Lake Champlain last week. Investigators said 74-year-old Katherine Curley, of Evergreen, Colorado, died after falling from a sailboat in the lake’s Converse Bay at some point Thursday evening. She was found the next morning by a boater near Cedar Island. Police have ruled the death as accidental, a decision consistent with the agency’s initial findings last week. State police believe Curley set off on the sailboat with 76-year-old William Snow, also of Evergreen. Investigators have not released information on how the pair knew each other. Snow was seen boating alone in Converse Bay the morning after Curley’s death, described by a fisherman as someone who “appeared to be experiencing mental distress.” The U.S. Coast Guard towed the 29-foot sailboat back to shore in the Charlotte area, when they were told another person might have been onboard.”He remained on the boat until he was located and rescued morning,” state police spokesperson Adam Silverman said during an initial investigation.
