The Franklin Northeast Supervisory Union School District updated the community Thursday on where the investigation into racism allegations stands.Three athletes on the boys soccer team from Enosburgh Falls High School are accused of making racist remarks toward players on the Winooski High School boys soccer team during a match over the weekend. Both teams also accused each other of being violent.”All students deserve to be treated with honor, dignity and respect in their school and broader community,” said Superintendent Lynn Cota, who oversees the district including Enosburgh. “All students facing specific allegations deserve to be treated fairly and objectively in the investigation process.”Winooski Superintendent Sean McMannon in a statement Monday, detailed what was allegedly said: “They were called the N-word, monkey, and terrorist. This is not the first time EFHS soccer players and spectators have racially abused WHS students.”Enosburgh Falls Principal Joseph Donarum is asking to speak with the Winooski team to help in his investigation. So far, he has spoken to their students involved, as well as coaches and the officials at the game.”The intent of this investigation is to hear from all parties and ensure all students are given a fair, thorough process,” Cota said. “Additionally, he has asked for access to the Winooski investigation materials and any gameday video they have to assist the principal in his investigation.”Superintendent Lynn Cota said that the district will take proper action if the allegations against their students are found to be true. Principal Donarum expects that the investigation will wrap up in a few days and a report will then be released. “There is no question that we have work to do in all of our communities to end racism, hate and intolerance.”
