Authorities said an “altercation” began outside the residence during which Johnson shot a handgun, striking Chaplin in the arm and chest. Chaplin was brought to Copley Hospital in Morrisville, where he was pronounced dead.An autopsy completed at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington confirmed the manner of death as a homicide.Details on the case have raised questions about the possibility of self-defense, though police have not publicly commented on that possibility. “If it’s on private property and someone is trying to invade the property, that would be a factual consideration for them,” Burlington-based attorney Jerry O’Neill said when asked about the case.
