NBC5 First Warning Chief Meteorologist

Very cold and sunny finish to the week

Quiet weekend

Updated: 11:18 PM EST Jan 20, 2022

NBC 5 1st Warning Weather with chief meteorologist Tyler Jankowski, it’s cold out there again. Yeah, it’s brutal out there. Tyler another night we’ve got two of them lined up actually I think tomorrow and I could be even colder but we have a nice view of the moon on lake champlain, Plattsburg Bay Cumberland head out there in the distance and you look closely you can see some flashing red lights. That’s the Georgia mountain Community Wind farm anyways. Yes, cold minus six in Plattsburgh calm wind though right now. I don’t think that’ll be the case all night. That’s why we’ve got a windchill issue going into tomorrow morning. But real nice picture also in this evening from luke Sherman, one of our engineers of Mount Mansfield maybe tinkering on the transmitter. Who knows. But up there 35 inches is the report from the snow steak on Mount Mansfield below average, but very close to where it was last year. It’s not saying much last year was a terrible snow year but we’ll keep an eye on it right now we’ve got a 15 below in tupper Lake minus eight and Malone. These are temperatures not windchills -8 for Swanson as well. A couple of positive digits as you head down the road. But I don’t think those last I think everyone’s pretty much below zero tomorrow morning the wind a little bit but again means a lot for the wind chill. It feels like 20 below right now in Montreal so a ton of cold in the forecast but also a lot of sun and really not much in the way of snow kind of weird looking forecast for this part in winter that we don’t have a big storm to track but the clear sky on storm tracker, there is snow over the atlantic ocean off of L. B. I. But not coming this direction, it’s moving out so here’s future cast with the sunshine tomorrow 100% blue sky for most of us the whole day. Really nice looking cold, saturday is similar, there’s full sun to start some clouds later on saturday but I don’t think we have snow showers until sunday and they’re really insignificant. They just blow through in the morning hours and then there’s some breaks of sun too so the wind chill is at its worst I think tomorrow morning, seven a.m. And then saturday morning it still feels like well below zero, but it’s more so just the air temperature saturday morning that’s colder with less wind either way, very cold. The next two nights five is the high for tomorrow improvement though by sunday all the way up to 24 as those snow showers come in. So impact weather tonight, we’ve done this before, exposed skin frost bites and issues so watch out for that seven, the high in Montpellier tomorrow five in Burlington and across northern New york basically three to about 10 in Newcomb, southern Vermont gets a little closer to 20 but still the wind makes it feel colder than that. So here’s all the sun in the five day tomorrow, saturday, even some sunny breaks on sunday. I think we’re back to mostly sunny on sunday. How about that? Three of the next five, but by Tuesday there will be periods of light snow or snow showers, something like that. I think it’s on the lighter side Wednesday another day stuck in the single digits brian Alice. All right, Tyler, mm hmm.

Although there will be a lot of sun, the rest of the week looks much colder than normal with highs in the teens and single digits.Friday and Saturday morning will likely be below zero. A wind chill advisory is in effect Friday morning, for wind chills between -20° to -30°. Saturday is dry and partly sunny, while Sunday is cloudier with a few flurries possible. This persistent cold pattern won’t break for the rest of the month!Although several minor snow chances are present, no major winter storms are in the forecast at this point.
