
WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Watertown police officials say an incident that involved a man barricaded in his home is over.
Police entered a house on the 300 block of N. California Avenue just after 12:30 pm. Detective Lieutenant Joe Donoghue tells 7 News they found the man dead inside.
Police were called to the home around 11 pm Friday night. Officials say it started as a domestic incident that involved a knife being displayed. Donoghue says a woman and her children were able to get out of the home.
Police say the negotiated with the man for several hours before he stopped responding. State Police were called in for assistance.
Donoghue says officers entered the home when they were sure it was safe to do so.
A portion of N. California Avenue was blocked to traffic during the incident. No neighboring homes were evacuated.
The investigation is ongoing.
