The University of Vermont women’s basketball team received plenty of recognition from America East this week.Guard Emma Utterback was named to the First Team All-Conference. Forward Anna Olson made the Second Team, guard Josie Larkins grabbed a spot on the Third Team.The biggest accolade went to Shelburne native, first-year guard Catherine Gilwee. The Champlain Valley Union High School alum won America East “Rookie of the Year” — an honor her teammates say is well-deserved. However, Gilwee is locked in on tomorrow’s playoff game.”We were together when we found out, I was screaming at the top of my lungs. She earned it. She has worked so hard. We are always pushing each other so hard in practice. She is extremely smart, has a high IQ I think everyone can see that,” Utterback said.”It means so much to me, but as Kres said, the main goal of our team is to win the America East Championship. As much as we are proud of ourselves for winning these awards. We have one main end goal, so that’s what we have to keep in mind,” Gilwee said.Vermont host Binghamton tomorrow in the America East quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m.
