Lighthouses aren’t just for coastal areas anymore.A newly built Stoney Ridge lighthouse is now a landmark in a landlocked area of Minnesota, thanks to a couple who always has a project in mind. After building a treehouse, Dean Lange pitched the idea for a lighthouse to his wife, Donna. Dean Lange studied lighthouses online and eventually created a model to get an idea of the materials he’d need. When construction began, the pandemic hit, but the couple and their kids — Kendra and Sam — helped out, building six floors from the inside out and often helping put heavy beams in place.”At some points, it seemed like, how are we ever going to finish this?” Kendra Lange told WCCO. “A lot of carpenters and people that work with wood look around at the beams and are kind of in awe with how we got it done.” Throughout the lighthouse, there’s a nautical theme but also repurposed pieces that tell their own story, including a table made from a 275-pound tree stump and flooring from an old Catholic church. “We’ve been married for 32 years and I always think whatever project we are on is our last project, but we never seem to be done. So we’ll see if this is the last project,” Donna Lange said. The Stoney Ridge Lighthouse is now available for rent on VRBO. Check out the listing and photos of the property here.
