One woman is dead and another person injured following a single-car crash Saturday evening, according to state police. Investigators said they were called to a section of Route 22 in Beekmantown just before 5 p.m. for reports of a crash. The passenger of the vehicle, 18-year-old Paula Garcia, of Keeseville, and a 20-year-old driver were both taken to the hospital for treatment. Garcia later died from her injuries, according to police. No health condition was listed for the driver. Following an investigation, police determined that the car was traveling south when an uninvolved vehicle entered the roadway, causing the driver to lose control of the car, hit a guardrail and overturn. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to call state police at 518-897-2000. Editor’s note: NBC5 News has made the decision not to name the 23-year-old driver as they have not been charged with a crime in connection with the crash. Additional information can be located in a press release from state police.
