Authorities are working to identify human remains found along a roadway in Rutland, investigators with local police announced Thursday. Members of the Rutland Town Police Department said decomposing remains were found the previous day along a section of Route 4 that runs through the community. The exact location was identified only as being “near the railroad tracks” there. According to police, a person called state police around 1:45 p.m. to report finding the remains. An on-scene investigation was conducted and all remains have since been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington for an autopsy.
