WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – The driver of a car was airlifted, and his 7-year-old son taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash in the town of Watertown Monday morning.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies say it happened shortly before 7 a.m. on State Route 232 — also known as Rices Road — when the car, driven by 41-year-old Ryan Jenness of Dexter, rear-ended a National Grid pickup truck that was turning into the National Grid maintenance building.
First responders had to cut the roof off to get the Jenness out of the car. The highway was shut down while crews cleared the scene.
Jenness was taken by helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. The 7-year-old was taken to Samaritan Medical Center to be checked out.
The driver of the pickup, 46-year-old Kenneth Shaw of Lowville, didn’t appear to be injured and declined medical treatment.
Deputies were assisted by town of Watertown fire and ambulance crews, Guilfoyle Ambulance, LifeNet, Adams Center firefighters, and state police.
