Three Massachusetts firefighters were reunited Thursday with the mother and baby they helped deliver over the weekend. Firefighters responded to a residence on Saturday night, after expectant mother Safa Kidwai went into labor with her second child. The town’s paramedic unit, which would normally respond, was already at another medical call, so one of Wayland’s fire engines responded to the home. “Upon arrival, three highly-trained firefighters found that baby Nuha was not interested in waiting for a ride to the hospital before being born,” a news release from the Wayland Fire Department said. According to the fire chief, Firefighter Todd Winner, Lt. Dean Casali and Captain Daniel Buentello, are all registered emergency medical technicians. “While Safa did most of the work, Firefighter Winner got the distinct honor of getting to hold baby Nuha first, when he aided in the delivery, cleared her airways and presented the healthy baby girl to her mother,” the chief said.Paramedics arrived minutes later and both patients were transported to a local hospital. They have since returned home and Safa reports that Nuha is a healthy baby girl. The firefighters reunited with Nuha and Safa on Thursday, where Wayland fire chief Neil McPherson presented all three with a special pink stork pin to commemorate the day they helped bring a new life into the world.Watch the video above for more on this story.
