GoFundMe is launching a streamlined, verified way to help Uvalde with monetary donations following the Robb Elementary school shooting in which at least 21 were killed on Tuesday. The hub is intended to be a centralized place to hold fundraiser efforts that have been verified as legitimate. It will be continuously updated as more fundraisers are vetted and verified. The hub can be found here. “Immediately following the news, GoFundMe mobilized a crisis team and began monitoring the platform for fundraisers created to help individuals and families. GoFundMe has a dedicated Trust & Safety team reviewing fundraisers related to this tragedy,” GoFundMe spokeswoman Melanie Yost told MySA in an email. The hub contains two trusted fundraisers in connection to the mass shooting, one by Austin-based Los Verdes Supporter Group and another launched by VictimsFirst, which is a network of families of victims from previous mass shootings. The public can also donate by giving blood. University Health and the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center are urging San Antonio residents to roll up their sleeves in support of Uvalde, a community only an hour outside of city limits. As of this writing, at least 19 students and two educators were confirmed dead at the hand of an 18-year-old shooter, who is also dead. “Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by Uvalde Elementary School Shooting,” Yost adds. “At GoFundMe, we are working around the clock to ensure the families receive the support they need.”On Wednesday, Uvalde Consolidate Independent School District updated the public on how to help. The official social media platforms shared information from First State Bank of Uvalde, where a memorial fund has been created to help victims of the Robb school shooting. Donations can be made at any FSB branch or by mailing a check payable to “Robb School Memorial Fund” to 200 E. Nopal St. Uvalde, Texas 78801.Zelle donations can be sent to robbschoolmemorialfund@gmail.com.
