Lash is serving a life sentence with the possibility for parole after being imprisoned in San Joaquin County since May 2013 for carjacking, second-degree robbery with gang enhancements, being armed with a gun and vehicle theft, Grassmann said.

Officers found Lash in Stockton unarmed around 1 p.m. on Thursday and he was taken into custody without incident.

Grassmann said authorities felt “relieved” because they don’t believe he committed a crime while he was out.

Lash is not being held at the main jail at this point, Grassmann said, without saying his new location.

He said that incarcerated people being released by mistake has happened before.
