A Panton resident was attacked by a coyote last week while walking their dog. The resident, who did not wish to be identified, said they were walking their dog through an un-mowed pasture behind their home on June 19 when a coyote emerged and attacked them.The complainant said the coyote bit them and left a puncture mark on their cheek, according to a report from the Vermont Warden Service.The person was able to separate themselves from the coyote and retreat with their dog while shouting to keep the coyote at bay.The person was treated by emergency medical services and advised to seek medical advice regarding precautionary treatment for rabies.The coyote was not present when EMS and the game warden arrived at the scene of the incident, and there have been no further reports of coyote activity.Only four prior coyote attacks on people have been reported in Vermont since 1991.
