Saranac Lake Police shot and killed a man with a knife at the Stewart’s Shop on Bloomingdale Ave. on Wednesday morning after the man attempted to attack them.The suspect’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his family. Police say that two officers responded to a reported stabbing at the Stewart’s Shop at 8:32 a.m., and ordered the suspect to drop his knife. The man refused and attacked a female officer, who stumbled and fell.The second officer then fired his gun at the suspect, wounding him.Police attempted to administer first aid while waiting for an ambulance. The man was transported to Adirondack Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The male stabbing victim was was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.Saranac Lake Police have requested investigators from New York State Police and the Attorney General’s office to assume control of the investigation.
