
Amtrak’s proposed rollout of train and bus tickets from Burlington to New York City didn’t go exactly as planned on Tuesday.The agency had expected to begin selling advance tickets for its new route from Burlington to Manhattan on Tuesday, but a glitch prevented customers from purchasing train tickets. Bus tickets, however, were still available. “Amtrak did the release for the new Ethan Allen extension this morning. It shows up on their side in their system, but for some reason, the refresh on the upload to their website didn’t happen correctly this morning,” said Dan Delabruere, VTrans Rail and Aviation Bureau director. “The website currently failed this morning, the upload didn’t refresh.”In the meantime, businesses in the Queen City are prepping for the possible influx of NYC tourists during the dog days of summer.“Definitely, the more tourists the better here,” said JP Coseno of North Star Sports. “I think all businesses downtown are going to benefit from that. So that will be one of the big things.”Coseno said he hopes to introduce city-goers to bike riding and Vermont’s great outdoors.Meanwhile, Brad Kelley from Burlington’s Wine Shop hopes to provide visitors with locally-sourced items to wind down at the end of their trip.“Over the last few years, more wineries have been opening up, more smaller wineries, and I have seen more interest in some specific wineries from particularly Canadians as well as out-of-towners,” Kelley said.Travelers looking to book a ticket to NYC that is Amtrak-train-only should select Burlington’s Union Station with code BTN.A one-way ticket to NYC from Burlington will cost a traveler around $75.
