Officials released body camera video showing the intense moments leading up to a six-hour standoff Friday after a woman shot a deputy and a bystander in Oklahoma. Deputies from the Grady County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene Friday morning for a woman acting erratically. Authorities said the suspect, Racheal Clay, had meth in her system.”It took her about 15, 20 minutes to figure out how to operate the gun. She was pushing buttons. She was frantic,” Grady County undersheriff Gary Boggess said.After shaking free of the shackles, Clay got her hands on a deputy’s rifle and fired 10 rounds from the patrol car. Deputies were confused, wondering how she got the rifle.”Did she get out of her cuffs?” a deputy could be heard asking.She did.”A ricochet actually hit our deputy, grazed him in the back of the neck, and then, what we’re figuring is a piece of shrapnel, or the bullet, hit the homeowner’s dad in the chest,” Boggess said.The two deputies then called in for backup.”I had two deputies on scene, which they both were treated with the homeowner’s dad behind one of our other units,” Boggess said. The deputy and bystander are OK. The deputy, Keith Williams, returned to work Monday. “I’ve been doing this for 35 years, and this is the first for me seeing someone get one of our guns and shoot from the car,” Boggess said.The woman was arrested on intent to kill charges.The Grady County Sheriff’s Office is looking to change security measures inside their vehicles to prevent something like this from happening again.
