21st, 24th Congressional races called in favor of Tenney and Castelli

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – With more than half of the vote in for second of two Primary Elections in New York State, the 21st and 24th Congressional races have been called.

People in the tri-county area are participating in two separate elections for congressional candidates. The newly created 24th Congressional District and the redrawn 21st Congressional District.

With this new redistricting, the newly created 24th includes Watertown and most of Jefferson County. And the redrawn 21st represents voters in northern parts of Jefferson County and all of Lewis and St. Lawrence.

The race for the 24th Congressional District has been called in favor of Claudia Tenney who was up against Mario Fratto, and George Phillips. Tenney will face Democrat Steven Holden in the November election.

With 478 of 531 precincts reporting, Claudia Tenney holds 53% of the reported vote with 17,266 votes. Mario Fratto has 40% of the reported vote and George Phillips takes just under 6% of the reported votes thus far.

21st Congressional District voters chose between two Democrats vying to run against Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik in November.

In the 21st Congressional District, 67% of precincts have been reported.

Matt Castelli has drawn the majority of the vote with 82% of the reported votes at 13,703. He called the race in favor if himself earlier in the night with just 15% of votes in.

Matt Putorti sees 18% of the reported vote this far at 3,077 votes.
