A bus driver contracted by the Colchester School District was arrested and cited for DUI after he was seen driving erratically on Saturday.The South Burlington Police Department said they received a call about a bus driving erratically on Shelburne Road just after 10 a.m.The caller followed the bus driver, later identified as Douglas Whitney, 56, of Essex Junction, into the parking lot of Rice High School and blocked the entrance with their vehicle until police arrived.Whitney was driving a Colchester High School sports team at the time of the incident. He was screened by a drug recognition expert and consented to an evidentiary blood draw after his arrest.While results of the blood draw are still forthcoming, police say Whitney was not under the influence of alcohol. The investigation is focusing on Whitney’s use of drugs prescribed to him.Anyone who has additional information on this case is asked to contact South Burlington police.
