TOWN OF RUTLAND, New York (WWNY) – A South Carolina man wanted for armed robbery was taken into custody in Jefferson County Thursday.
State police responded to 31090 State Route 3 in the town of Rutland after learning that a fugitive from justice was there.
Police took 22-year-old Shamoray R. Holmes of Myrtle Beach into custody without incident.
Troopers said Holmes was in the north country visiting his girlfriend.
Thursday morning, part of Route 3 near Felts Mills was closed between County Route 143 and Lester Road for about 30 minutes while state police focused on the property there. (See photo at the bottom of this article)
The state police mobile response team was at the scene with a Lenco BearCat, a black, heavily-armored Hummer-like vehicle. K-9 patrols were also there.
Holmes was wanted on a fugitive from justice warrant for an armed robbery. The felony warrant was issued by Horry County, South Carolina’s Fifteenth Judicial District.
According to news reports, Holmes was allegedly involved in a string of armed robberies in Myrtle Beach in 2018.
Holmes and two other suspects were accused of using the dating app “Grindr” to find victims who were visiting from out of town.
One report said Holmes was set to go on trial in 2022.
He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await extradition by South Carolina law enforcement officials.
State police were assisted by the Black River Police Department.
