While lots of people may have spent most of the day inside to enjoy the Macy’s Day Parade, football, and lots of food, the holiday weekend is now here which means holiday festivities are in full swing. Santa’s parade on Church Street is the first event this holiday weekend, where he’ll make his way up the block at noon, before stopping at Homeport to hear from some excited children. Later in the day, the BTV Market will open at 2 p.m. where marketgoers will find an array of different local vendors and artists. “We have over 20 vendors here every single week showing their artwork small crafts, food and drinks,” said Zach Williamson, BCA events and festival coordinator. If you are worried about it being a bit chilly, the market has you covered. “We’ve installed power in all of these, so they all have infrared heaters to stay warm and additional lighting and decorations, there is a lot more infrastructure that goes into doing an event like this in the winter,” Williamson said. As the sun starts to set later in the evening you can check out the annual tree lighting at 6 p.m. at the top of Church Street. This year’s tree was donated by a South Burlington family and stands 30 feet tall with over 100,000 lights. “We have new LEDs this year, they have a twinkle effect so we’re hoping it feels magical down here,” said Kara Alnarawi, director of Church Street Marketplace. The fun will continue on Saturday with a free hot chocolate tasting at Lake Champlain Chocolate’s Pine Street location which runs from 12 to 4 p.m.Also, on Saturday afternoon there will be a special performance at 3 p.m. of the Nutcracker at the Flynn Theatre by the Albany Berkshire Ballet.
