(áááFIRST WARNING TYLER OPENááá) <NOW FIRST WARNING WEATHER WITH CHIEF METEOROLOGIST TYLER JANKOSKI> FULL WEATHER: A powerful storm system is expected to bring a significant high wind event to the region tonight into Friday morning with widespread gusts of 50 to 75 mph, along with scattered to widespread power outages. As much colder air races into the region Friday afternoon and evening, a flash freeze is likely with temperatures rapidly below freezing and lingering rain briefly changing to snow before ending Friday evening. The combination of snow melt and rainfall will produce sharp rises on waterways with several rivers potentially reaching minor flood by late Friday into Saturday. Additionally, continued strong winds will result in below zero wind chills across the region while parts of northern St. Lawrence County will also see lake effect snow develop Saturday into Sunday. A powerful storm will bring major impacts to the area from Thursday evening through Friday and into Friday night.Storm impacts are listed below in chronological order.Wet Snow: Thursday late afternoon and evening in the mountains. Several inches of accumulation. Wet consistency. Slippery travel. Heavy Rain: All snow switches to plain rain early Friday morning with over an inch of rain expected for almost all locations. This, combined with snow melt, will cause minor flooding Friday into Saturday. Flooding is usually slightly delayed as it takes a while for water to drain down into rivers and streams.Damaging Wind: Unusually strong gusts, even in very populated areas, of 60 to 70 mph Friday morning. This includes the eastern Champlain Valley, Adirondacks around Lake Placid and the northern White Mountains near Franconia Notch.Flash Freeze: Arrives before noon in northern New York and moves east into Vermont through the early afternoon on Friday. Temperatures crash from the 50s to the 20s and then teens! All standing water will turn to ice. Travel may be very difficult in areas yet to receive treatment.Christmas Eve on Saturday will be much quieter, with clouds, a breeze and temperatures in the 20s. Snow will continue in St. Lawrence County but most areas will be dry.Christmas Day will be quiet and cold, with highs in the 20s.
