Saturday: 3700 Power Outages in Jefferson County

CAPE VINCENT, New York (WWNY) – The number of customers in Jefferson County without power doubled overnight.

According to National Grid, more than 3700 customers are without power as they wake up on a blustery, Christmas Eve Day.

All of Wellesley Island and Grindstone Island is without power, affecting 1700 people.

Add to that, Friday night’s outage of 1100 customers in Cape Vincent and a few more scattered outages between Cape Vincent and Alexandria Bay, and you get to more than 3700 customers.

Friday night, the Cape Vincent Fire Department was opened as a warming center.

There is no estimated time for the restoration of power at this time.

Lewis County has pretty much no power outages.

St. Lawrence County is fewer than 100 customers.

Nearly 30,000 outages are reported right around Buffalo, New York.

A blizzard warning continues for Jefferson County and part of St. Lawrence County. Wind gusts are 40-50 mph, but could reach gusts of 70 mph. Lewis County remains under a winter storm warning with blizzard-like conditions.
