12th annual basketball classic ends with humble recognition of North C0untry tradition

Moriah High School and Ticonderoga High School secured wins in the final day of the 12th annual Judy’s Alzheimer’s Classic over Plattsburgh high school and Peru high school. Moriah senior forward Rowan Swan led the Vikings with 19 points leading to a 71-34 win. However, he recognizes the tradition of the tournament, symbolized by the Konowitz family. John Konowitz, a former high school and college basketball coach for several schools such as SUNY Cortland, Ausable Valley High School, died from a heart attack in January 2022. His wife Judy battled Alzheimer’s until she died in April 2022. Judy received the name of the tournament after her support of John’s basketball coaching career.”Coach Konowitz legacy is always a big thing in the North Country,” Swan said. “To come in here and win these past two games like we did is a really great thing to do not for just our team, but also for his legacy.”Ticonderoga also secured a 49-31 win over Peru. Ticonderoga junior Thomas Montalbano led all scorers in that contest with 13 points.

Moriah High School and Ticonderoga High School secured wins in the final day of the 12th annual Judy’s Alzheimer’s Classic over Plattsburgh high school and Peru high school.
