TONIGHT. WINOOSKI’S BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM WENT UP TO FRANKLIN COUNTY. AND BEAT MISSISQUOI VALLEY BY 23 POINTS. BUT AS NBC FIVE’S CAROLYN SISTRAND SHOWS US…. IT’S WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE TIP-OFF. THAT MEANT THE MOST…TO ONE LOCAL FAMILY. IT WAS A SEEMINGLY SMALL GESTURE. BUT SOMETHING ONE WINOOSKI PLAYER FELT LIKE HE HAD TO DO. FOR HIS FAMILY STILL LIVING WITH A TREMENDOUS LOSS. <19;31;02 KELLEN BOURGEOIS: “I WANT TO REMEMBER HIM.”> BEFORE CHASING THEIR FOURTH WIN OF THE SEASON. WINOOSKI SENIOR KELLEN BOURGEOIS TOOK TO THE BASKETBALL COURT WITH DIFFERENT WARM- UP GEAR ON. HONORING THE COUSIN, HE TRAGICALLY LOST LAST YEAR. <19;30;35 KELLEN BOURGEOIS: “I JUST WANTED TO SHOW THAT I STILL REMEMBER HIM AND HE’S STILL IN MY HEART.”> 15-YEAR-OLD DYLAN BUSHEY WOULD’VE BEEN A SOPHOMORE AT MISSIQOUI… AND LIKELY WOULD’VE BEEN WATCHING KELLEN PLAY THIS GAME. BUT HE LOST HIS LIFE LAST DECEMBER IN AN A-T-V ACCIDENT. <19;35;48 LYDIA BOURGEOIS MONGEON: “HE WAS SO YOUNG, THAT WASN’T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN.”> IN THE STANDS ON THIS TUESDAY NIGHT… HIS PARENTS… MOST OF KELLEN’S COUSINS, AUNTS AND UNCLES… FROM THE FRANKLIN AREA. TOGETHER… AS A FAMILY. <19;39;15 LYDIA BOURGEOIS MONGEON: “I THINK THAT IT SHOWS I’M RAISING COMPASSIONATE YOUNG MEN.”> AND KELLEN’S BEST FRIEND. MORE LIKE A BROTHER. <19;33;03 AYDEN JOHNSON: “I FIGURED I COULD SHOW SOME LOVE HERE.”> NOT LETTING HIM DO THIS ALONE. RIGHT BY HIS SIDE TO SUPPORT HIM. <19;33;19 AYDEN JOHNSON: “USUALLY WHEN PEOPLE ARE DOWN ON OUR TEAM, WE’RE GOOD TO STEP UP AND HELP EACH OTHER OUT.”> KELLEN… JUST TRYING TO DO SOMETHING…
