
After an undefeated start to the season, Essex faced its toughest test of the season on Wednesday as it hit the road to take on Colchester.The Hornets struck first, but the Lakers scored late to force a 2-2 overtime tie against its rival.Essex got the scoring started after Andrew Forcier converted on a second-chance opportunity outside the crease to make it 1-0. In the second period, the Hornets tacked onto that lead after Colchester turned the puck over in their own zone.The Lakers were able to battle back, though, as Ben Sherman broke the drought with a power play goal in the second period before they’d tie it in the third.Wednesday also featured plenty of high school basketball on both sides of the lake. In Northern New York, Moriah high school boys basketball was able to sweep the season series against Northeastern Clinton Central High School with a 57-43 victory. Rowan Swan led all scorers for the Vikings with 18 points. Saranac Lake high school boys basketball was able to hold off a late comeback against Plattsburgh high school winning 61-53. Markus Navarra led all Red Storm scorers with 24 points. In Barre, Spaulding remained undefeated with a 55-43 win over division three’s Hazen.
