TOWN OF GOUVERNEUR, New York (WWNY) – According to court documents, murder suspect Frederick Wing stabbed his alleged victim in the neck in a cemetery.
The 22-year-old Gouverneur man is charged with second-degree murder. He’s being held without bail in the St. Lawrence County Jail.
According to court papers, Wing stabbed 72-year-old Ronald Durham in the neck at around 7 a.m. on Saturday at East Riverside Cemetery in the town of Gouverneur.
Troopers said they were called to the scene at 8:20 a.m. by a person who lives near the cemetery.
State police had no comment on what type of weapon was used to kill Durham, but did say the men were acquaintances.
A friend of Durham, Greg Yaddow, told 7 News that Durham, known to him as ‘Huck,’ was helping Wing cope with the recent death of his mother.
“Hard to believe. That young fellow there, I guess his mother died here not too long ago, and Huck was basically helping him out. And then to do something like this is just hard to swallow,” said Yaddow.
According to an obituary, Wing’s mother passed away the week before Christmas.
People who live near the cemetery said Durham often visited his wife’s grave. They also said Wing’s mother is buried in the cemetery.
State police are handling the investigation.
