His nonstop barking caught his family’s attention, and they called emergency services for help.

The Morgan Fire Department lowered a rope with a hoop at the end, hoping they’d maybe catch the dog’s leg. Instead, Gannicus bit the rope and latched on himself. Firefighters were able to pull him up and out of the well.

“As we were pulling him up, the dog was still barking and then all I could see was his white teeth shining back at us,” said Morgan Fire Department Chief Mark Jacobs.
