State lawmakers are passing a bill to raise the marriage age in the state to 18.If signed into law, Vermont would join seven other states that do not allow marriage before the age of 18. Supporters say it would help reduce domestic violence and unwanted pregnancies.The bill passed on Thursday. In order for it to become law, it must pass in the Senate and be signed by Governor Phil Scott.Under the current law, 16 and 17 year-olds can get married with the consent of a parent.
