Towns across the state are gearing up for another round of winter weather that could potentially impact Town Meeting Day on Tuesday. But it wouldn’t be the first time. Nor’easters caused some postponements at the polls a few years ago. “Some of our best memories were families coming in in snowshoes and on cross-country skis,” Londonderry Town Clerk Sherry Farrell said.Some towns have already postponed. Wakefield rescheduled their election for March 28.Other towns like Londonderry and Milford are meeting with first responders and public works Monday morning to make a decision.Londonderry Town Moderator Jonathan Kipp said there’s a lot to consider, like road conditions and if poll workers are available if they do need to reschedule. “We want to ensure the safety of our voters; however, we also would love to hold the election. I mean, we are New Englanders,” Kipp said. Town meetings are traditionally held on the second Tuesday in March and determine town budgets and who sits on local boards. While turnout is oftentimes lower, Kipp said the town meetings are especially important for town and school elections. If things go as scheduled, Farrell said anyone concerned about the winter weather can get an absentee ballot at the Londonderry Town Hall on Monday. “Candidates have lost by one or two votes,” Farrell said. “The money dictates our towns. Every vote is so important.”In Londonderry, they’re expecting to have a decision by Monday afternoon.
