Police: Louisville bank shooter bought AR-15 rifle legally days prior

Five people are dead and at least nine were wounded during a mass shooting Monday morning at a downtown Louisville bank. The shooter is also dead.Police said officers were called around 8:30 a.m. Monday to Old National Bank on Main Street. They were on scene within three minutes. Latest updates on Louisville mass shooting:Four patients are still at UofL Hospital. One, Officer Wilt, is in critical condition. The rest are in fair, stable condition, the hospital said.Shooter purchased an AR-15 legally on April 4 from a Louisville gun dealership.Sen. McGarvey said shooter left a note and told at least one person he was suicidal.Vigil planned for Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Muhammad Ali Center.Body camera footage is expected to be released Tuesday afternoon. When they arrived, they encountered an active shooter inside with an AR-15 rifle. He has been identified as Connor Sturgeon, 25, an employee of the bank.LMPD said Sturgeon fired at police, they fired back, and they then “stopped that threat.”It’s unclear how many rounds were fired.The five people who died were employees of the bank. One LMPD officer, Nickolas Wilt, 26, was shot in the head and received brain surgery at UofL Hospital.On Tuesday, UofL Hospital said four patients are still being treated. Wilt is still in critical condition. The other three victims are considered stable and in fair condition. The others have been discharged.Police aren’t sure yet on a motive for the shooting, but called it a targeted attack.Sen. At the scene, WLKY observed bullet holes in the front windows of the bank, and a front window shattered. According to the Associated Press, this was the 15th mass shooting so far this year in the U.S.
