
Two people were arrested earlier this month in Malone after leading state and local police on a 23-mile car chase that ended after one of the suspects tried to take a trooper’s firearm.According to officials, Malone Village Police were pursuing 29-year-old Charles Davenport and 42-year-old Towanda Symonds on the morning of April 7 when officers called state police for help.The ensuing chase lasted for 23 miles before Davenport ultimately lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a gas pump barrier.State Police said Davenport and Symonds fled the scene on foot before police were able to catch up.Police said Davenport then engaged in a physical fight with troopers, during which time he attempted to take one of the trooper’s firearms. He eventually was able to grab and use a stun gun against the troopers before he was stopped.Both Davenport and Symonds were arrested and taken in for processing. Officials later learned that the vehicle they were driving was stolen, and contained an imitation pistol, drug paraphernalia and cocaine.They were both arraigned on multiple charges and are being held at the Franklin County Jail for lack of bail.
