Update: Nine people displaced by Watertown fire Thursday

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – The American Red Cross is helping nine people, including a new-born baby after an early morning fire on South Massey Street.

Watertown and Fort Drum fire crews responded to the call, which came in just before 4 a.m. Thursday.

The house is next door to the Emma Flower Taylor Fire Station and crews responded within seconds.

There are several apartments in the building. The Red Cross says it is assisting two families, consisting of eight adults and a two-day-old infant.

No one was injured.

Officials say the fire started in a bottom-floor apartment.

The cause is under investigation.
