Vermont author and artist Tillie Walden has been nominated for a 2023 Eisner Award for her work on a recent graphic novel.Walden, who was recently named Vermont’s Cartoonist Laureate, was nominated for their 2022 graphic novel “Clementine Book One” based off the popular “The Walking Dead” series by Image Skybound.Walden is competing with four other authors in the Best Publication for Teens (ages 13-17) category against another Vermont duo. Jamila Rowser and Robyn Smith, who were nominated for their book “Wash Day Diaries.”Walden is a graduate of the Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction and is currently a faculty member at the school. They previously took home an Eisner Award in 2016 for their graphic novel “Are You Listening?” In 2020 in the New Material category.Walden was also nominated in 2019 for her book “On A Sunbeam” and received the Los Angeles Book Prize in 2018.The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards are considered the Academy Awards of the comic book and graphic novel industry. The awards are named after illustrious cartoonist Will Eisner, creator of “The Spirit,” according to Comic Con International San Diego.This year’s Eisner Award winners will be announced at Comic Con International San Diego in July.
