West Rutland hosted annual Memorial Day parade Monday
West Rutland kicked off their Memorial Day celebrations by running a parade through town.
I’M ALICE KANG. AND I’M BRIAN COLLERAN. STEW HAS THE NIGHT OFF. TOWNS AND CITIES ACROSS OUR REGION. CELEBRATING MEMORIAL DAY IN THEIR OWN SPECIAL AND UNIQUE WAYS. NBC5’S JOHN HAWKS takes us to the festivities in Southern Vermont. WEST RUTLAND KICKING OFF THEIR MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATIONS BY RUNNING A PARADE THROUGH TOWN. <NAT POP MOTORCYCLE> MEMORIAL DAY IN WEST RUTLAND… COMMUNITY MEMBERS SETTING UP ON SIDE WALKS IN TOWN TO WATCH the parade go by. LOTS OF kids HOPING TO GET PIECES OF CANDY from the floats – with ANTIQUE CARS, BIKES AND MARCHING BANDS rounding out the annual celebration. <NAT POP BAND> <LIZ SAYRE KEENE, NH RESIDENT I CAME UP TODAY BECAUSE MY HUSBAND PLAYS TROMBONE ON THE BAND WAGON, WHICH HAS BEEN AROUND FOR MANY MANY YEARS. IT’S A GREAT EVENT AND WE COME UP TO VISIT MY COUSINS AND HER COUSINS IN PROCTOR. SO, IT’S AN ALL-DAY FAMILY EVENT.> THE PARADE TAKING OVER THE STREETS IN THE MORNING… with PEOPLE VISITING FROM ALL OVER THE REGION TO WATCH. <KELLE MALKEWITZ WATCHING PARADE MY FRIEND JOE AND I DECIDED TO COME OUT AND TAKE IN THE PARADE. IT’S A BEAUTIFUL DAY. LOTS OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT. WE HAD A GREAT TIME.> ATVS, MOTORCYCLES AND FIRETRUCKS AMONG the most popular PARTS OF THE PARADE. <TOO SHORT TO SUPER PAYTON ANDREWS WEST RUTLAND RESIDENT I LIKED SEEING ALL OF THE FIRE TRUCKS.> <LIZ SAYRE KEENE, NH RESIDENT ALL THE FIRE TRUCKS AND EVERYTHING BECAUSE MY FATHER WAS A VOLUNTEER FIRE FIGHTER IN NEW JERSEY. SO THAT’S REALLY IMPORTANT. AND RECOGNIZING ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF MEMORIAL DAY.> DIFFERENT GENERATIONS ALL REPRESENTED IN THE PARADE AND LOOKING ON. <KELLE MALKEWITZ WATCHING PARADE YEAH, SOME KIDS, LOTS OF PETS.
